Austria’s economy minister Martin Kocher is set to become the country’s next central bank president, replacing current head Robert Holzmann a year from now.

The appointment of Kocher, a 50-year-old former academic who specialised in experimental economics before he joined the conservative-green coalition in 2021, is expected to be formally approved by Austria’s president, Alexander Van der Bellen.
